He wrote biographies of Disraeli, Byron, Shelley, and many others, including some for children; his Call No Man Happy: An Autobiography dates from 1944. Quotable: "Memory is a great artist. For every man and for every woman it makes the recollection of his or her life a work of art and an unfaithful record."
