Biography Theory at a Glance (7/9)

Kendall, Paul Murray. The Art of Biography. New York, Norton, 1965.

Stephen Shapiro says the baseball player can't always coach; he has no taste for Kendall's model of biography as "simulation." "Clifford's pluralistic approach is much more sensible and sound than Kendalls prescriptive one." Another fun, instructive negative review.

Murray is best known for his biography of Richard III -- hence the baseball player analogy.
